  • Chas Burkhart founded Investment Counseling, a pioneering management consulting and research company to the asset management industry. From 1988-2000, Investment Counseling completed over 400 assignments on business analysis, compensation design, distribution strategy, ownership transition, valuation, and related topics.

  • Developed and launched Competitive Challenges, the original best practices analysis of the business of asset management. Now run by Greenwich Associates.

  • Sold Investment Counseling to CRA RogersCasey.

    Founded Rosemont Investment Partners, LLC and raised the first of its three private equity funds. Made 30 investments in asset and wealth management boutiques across three funds from 2000-2018. Third fund still active.

  • June 2018, formed Rosemont Investment Group, LLC in partnership with Markel Corporation to provide permanent capital solutions to asset and wealth management firms.

Chas is the founder of Rosemont Investment Partners, LLC and CEO of Rosemont Investment Group, LLC. He oversees sourcing, evaluating, and negotiating prospective investments. He works closely with portfolio companies to help them sustain and grow their franchises. Prior to forming Rosemont Investment Partners, LLC in May 2000, Chas founded Investment Counseling, Inc., one of the first asset management business consultants and industry research firms, in 1989. Chas launched Investment Counseling, Inc. as a research boutique by introducing business, financial, and compensation analyses to the investment management industry. In 1990, he created Measuring Operating

Efficiency, one of the earliest studies of money management businesses, and the forerunner to Competitive Challenges. Over the past 30 plus years he has worked with hundreds of firms on compensation and ownership, competitive positioning, growth strategies, valuation, networking, and overall best practices in the asset management industry. Prior to establishing Investment Counseling, Inc., he was a principal with the executive search firm of Lee Calhoon & Co., specializing in the field of pensions and investments. Chas is a frequent speaker and occasional author on business issues and challenges in the investment management business. He holds a BA in English from Boston College.

Melinda is the Chief Administrative Officer and responsible for the management and direction of all administrative areas of the firm, as well as office operations, compliance, quarterly reporting and client service. Prior to joining Rosemont in July 2003, she was a Manager with SCIREX Corporation for five years where she was responsible for supporting the executive office of the Chairman, CEO and

President. Before that she served for approximately four years as Assistant Vice President at American Business Financial Services reporting to the Chairman and President where she was responsible for all administrative and human resource functions. Melinda holds a BS in Business Administration from Bloomsburg University.

As Chief Financial Officer, Sam manages the tax, accounting and human resource functions for Rosemont. Prior to joining Rosemont in 2000, he served as CFO for Investment Counseling, Inc. for seven years and became a director in the compensation consulting practice for its successor firm, CRA. He has over twenty-five years of experience as a financial executive and in addition to his tax, accounting and administrative duties he

consulted in the compensation area designing and evaluating executive compensation plans for money management firms. Sam holds a BS in Accounting from Long Island University, did his MBA graduate work at Pace University and is a Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP), Certified Management Consultant, Enrolled Agent, Microsoft Certified Professional and Certified Compensation Professional.

Rosemont Investment Group, LLC was established in June 2018 by Chas Burkhart and Markel Corporation (NYSE: MKL) to be a leading provider of permanent capital solutions to asset and wealth management companies.

 

Rosemont’s source of investment capital is Markel and there is no fund structure or exit strategy, allowing Rosemont investments to remain private and majority employee-owned for as long as they choose.

Michael Heaton

Michael Heaton is the President and Chief Operating Officer of Markel Ventures, a division of Markel Corporation. Mr. Heaton joined Markel in 2006 and shortly thereafter became involved in the growth of Markel Ventures. Since that time, the group has expanded to nineteen companies with over 11,000 people and nearly $2 billion in revenues. Mr. Heaton enjoys working with this very diverse group of companies. Together with the team at Markel Ventures, Mr. Heaton has worked the past decade to support the exceptional leaders of these companies who operate with a high degree of autonomy and are focused on the long term success of their respective businesses. Mr. Heaton is a graduate of the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia and of Brigham Young University.

Beth Hungate-Noland

Beth Hungate-Noland is a Managing Director of Markel Ventures, where she focuses on supporting the leadership teams of the Markel Ventures’ companies as well as evaluating potential future partners. Prior to joining Markel in early 2018, Ms. Hungate-Noland was a partner at Williams Mullen. Her practice focused on mergers and acquisitions, complex joint ventures and corporate governance. Ms. Hungate-Noland is a graduate of Roanoke College, Armstrong Atlantic State University and the University of Richmond School of Law.
